Create a Gallery for Your Child's Bedroom with Clever Use of Picture Frames

If you enjoy interior design, decorating a child's bedroom is one of the most fun projects you can take on. It's a great opportunity to let your imagination run free, and you're certain to have a very happy occupant once the room is finished.

There are limitless possibilities for decorating kids' rooms, from the colours and furniture to the extra touches, but one of the most effective ways to bring the room to life is to add a gallery wall. Using some custom-made frames in various sizes, you can frame all sorts of things to create an interesting feature on one wall. Here are some of the things you could use – mix and match to make something really unique.

Old toys

Just because some toys don't get played with anymore, it doesn't mean your child would be happy if you were to get rid of them. A great way to repurpose them is by mounting them in a frame with the glass removed.

Choose a brightly-coloured backing paper and use a strong glue to hold the toy in place. Using three-dimensional items on the gallery wall creates extra texture and quirkiness.

Pages from books

Children's books are normally quite cheap to buy, so there's little cost involved in buying an extra copy of your child's favourite for this purpose.

Carefully cut out a page with a nice illustration or piece of text. You could also use the cover or just frame the whole book if it's flat enough.

Child's drawings

Parents normally have plenty of art created by their children, much of which ends up fighting for space on the fridge.

Select a piece your child is particularly proud of and put it in a nice frame so they can see it presented beautifully in their own space.

Handwritten passages

If you have good handwriting skills, a poem, phrase, or section of a story makes a great framed decoration. Add some flourishes and extra decorations as you see fit.

Crafted items

For crafty parents, pieces of cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, sewing, or many other crafts can be framed. This gives you the chance to create something special just for your child.

Certificates

If your child has earned certificates through school or from their hobbies, framing them for their own bedroom makes a nice addition to their personal gallery. You could also make your own certificates either by hand or on a computer – think of things like an award for tidying their room, or being the best at brushing their teeth.
